Spring Lake Evangelical Lutheran Church

About our church...

photo of church front entranceWe are located at 8440 Erickson Road NE in North Branch, Minnesota, Spring Lake Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded 1871 by Swedish immigrants. On August 3, 1874, the church was named "The First Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church of Spring Lake." These days the congregation is more diverse. We welcome people of all backgrounds because we know that all are called to be God's children.

What we believe...

God loves you and has a plan for your life!

That's what we believe at Spring Lake Lutheran Church. We know and experience God’s love in our lives through ordinary and amazing moments each and every day. photo of church front entranceGod wants us to not only feel and understand God’s love for us and the whole world, but to share that love with others. We invite you to discover God’s love for you and God’s plan for your life in worship, in prayer, in study with small groups, in relationships with others, in reading the scriptures, in times of stillness seeking God’s presence. If you want to find out more about God’s love and the plan God has for your life, we invite you to join us as together we journey in faith. Come worship with us on Sunday morning. Join us in one of our study sessions during the Education Hour (winter only). We have many wonderful classes planned including "Reaffirming your Lutheran Beliefs." You are welcome here!

It is a history...

...like many other church histories, where congregations work together as partners when there is a need, and decide to call their own pastors when the budget or membership rolls deem it appropriate. We remember that Cambridge Lutheran, organized in 1864, shared its pastors with Fish Lake and Spring Lake until 1875.

Spring Lake...

...can certainly call itself a "daughter" congregation of Fish Lake Lutheran, for here we got our start. Following the classic pattern across America, Spring Lake, in turn, helped to organize new congregations. For instance, when Spring Lake members from Oxford township found it difficult to travel the distance to Sunday Services, the Oxford chapel was built. This Spring Lake/Oxford association continued from 1893 until 1922 when it became a separate congregation under the name Salem Lutheran.

August 8, 1980...

...a special congregational meeting held to consider calling our own pastor. The resolution passed, thus ending a thirty-year partnership with our "mother" church just down the road...until the next time.

We offer friendship and fellowship...

...in a clean, comfortable, country-style surrounding. We eagerly look forward to meeting you and your family. As people of God, we seek to grow. We desire growth in faith, in fellowship, in service, and in worshipping believers. Won't you please join us some Sunday or at one of our special events?

newly restored bell tower

The Swedish bell tower...

...was donated by the Anna Danielson family in 1954. It is a replica of the bell tower in the town of Värnamö, in the province of Smöland, Sweden. This tower had restoration work recently and great attention was paid to keeping its inherent traditions and appearance intact. The bell housed inside was recently upgraded and now rings daily on a predetermined schedule. We are quite proud of this link to our Swedish heritage but now the bell tolls for many different nationalities. As our part of Minnesota grows and more people move here, and our congregation has become more diverse in its backgrounds, we can no longer refer to our church as a "Swedish" church but, rather, an American church...one that has many diverse nationalities in its people's lineage. Everyone is welcome here and we hope that you and your family will plan to visit us some day and perhaps join our fine family.
